Girl Scouts Earn Gold Awards

Jessica Moore and Melissa Buczko of Mansfield Girl Scout Troop 959 earned their Gold Awards on June 18, 2007 at the Mansfield Township Elementary School. Jessica and Melissa presented their work to the children and teachers in grades Pre-K through 2nd grade.

"Spike's Sidewalk of Fun"
Jessica designed and painted all the sidewalk games. There are Hopscotch boards, Snail's Pace, Number and Letter Grids, Alphabet Beads, Number beads 1-50 (skip count by 5's), Tic Tac Toe, Crayons, Coins, Shapes, and Spike's footprints. Jessica created a Rule Book for each grade level and presented them to the teacher's.

Game Pieces
Melissa created the game pieces for the Hopscotch, Snail's Pace and Tic Tac Toe. Melissa presented her game pieces which each grade level received their own supply box of.

The project began in March with the goal to create a play area that is both fun and educational for the children in Pre-K through 2nd grade. The children really enjoyed the presentation of the game rules. The presentation was completed in 4 sessions, one for each grade level. The children were included in the presentation by trying out the games through demonstrations.

The Gold Award is the highest award a girl can earn in Girl Scouts. Jessica and Melissa dedicated a lot of time, research, and work to complete this project and they are very proud of their accomplishments, the final product is very rewarding. They wish many happy hours of play for the children. They would like to thank all the children and teachers for their patience during the time the work was being completed. A special thank you to Dr. Seipp (superintendent) and Mr. Kemp (principal) for allowing them to use the school grounds and Mrs. Shisler for making all the arrangements and announcements. Jessica and Melissa are former students of Mansfield Elementary School, they currently attend Warren Hills High School.
