BUDGET AMENDMENT HEARING

There will be a public hearing on an amendment to the 2008 budget at the Township Committee's June 11 meeting. The amendment will change the municipal budget introduced in February to reflect cuts of $170,152 in state funding to Mansfield to offset property taxes and cuts to spending made by the Township Committee at subsequent budget meetings.

Compared to the 2007 budget, the 2008 budget as amended will include an increase of about $141,000 in grants for specific projects or uses, and a decrease of about $86,000 in other spending. Despite the reduction in spending not funded through grants, the amended budget will include a tax increase of 3.9 cents per hundred dollars of assessed value due to anticipated decreases in non-tax revenues. The decrease in state funding to offset taxes will account for two-thirds of the tax increase.
