Joseph Watters New Mayor

Committeeman Joseph Watters was sworn in as Mayor by Judge Edward Palmer at the Township’s Committee’s Jan. 1 reorganization meeting. Watters, in his third year in office, was selected mayor by his fellow committee members.
Mayor Watters wants to continue providing the same services to the taxpayers as in the past, at the same or lesser cost. Noting the progress made towards this goal over the first two years of his term, he wants to continue to examine new and creative ideas addressing cost cutting – including more shared services agreements in the public works area, sharing of equipment and programs similar to the agreement recently entered into with Washington Township for shared municipal court services bringing anticipated savings of $40,000 to $45,000 for the two municipalities in the first year.
Watters follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Earl T. Watters, who served Mansfield Township as Treasurer from January 1946 to December 1951.
The committee selected George Baldwin to serve as Deputy Mayor and Dick Appleby as Alternate Deputy Mayor.
