Land Use Board

The Land Use Board functions under the authority of the Municipal Land Use Law of New Jersey. The Board charts the future of the Township by examining existing and potential development in the community in accordance with state and local regulations. The Board is authorized to:

  • Create and Adopt a Master Plan, which is subject to re-examination every ten years.
  • Review all major and minor Subdivision and Site Plan applications
  • Review Conditional use applications
  • Recommend amendments to land use ordinances for submission to Township Committee
  • Review requests for variances

The Land Use Board consists of nine members as follows:

  • One Class I member (The Mayor or his designee)
  • One Class II member (Township Official other than Township Committee member)
  • One Class III member (Member of the Township Committee)
  • Five Class IV members (Citizens of the Township appointed by the Mayor)
  • Four Alternate Members (Citizens of the Township appointed by the Mayor to fill positions on the Board when needed)

Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 7:30pm.

Environmental Commission

The Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor, all members being residents of the Township and one being a member of the Land Use Board also.

Powers of the Commission:
  • Research Use and Possible Uses for open land areas and natural resources
  • Coordinate activites of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes 
  • Handles distributing of materials for Environmental purposes
  • Maintains an index of public or privately owned areas(marshlands, swamps, and other wetlands) to obtain information on the proper use of these areas
  • May recommend to the Planning Board and the Township Committee plans and programs to be included in the Master Plans for the development and use of such areas
  • May aquire real and personal property in the name of the Township to ensure conservation and proper use of open spaces and other land and water areas

Economic Development Advisory Council

The Advisory Council shall collect information on opportunities for commercial and industrial business and investment in Mansfield Township. The Advisory Council shall prepare and distribute pamphlets explaining opportunities in the Township and outlining Township regulations affecting businesses; subject to the prior approval of the Mansfield Township Committee. The Advisory Council shall perform the following duties and such other duties as are assigned to it from time to time by the Mayor and Township Committee:
To inquire into, survey and publicize the extent, advantages and utility of properties in the Township which can be economically developed.
To categorize such properties according to their adaptability for the location thereon of various types of economic enterprises.
To advertise the advantages of the Township and the availability of real estate within the Township for economic development and to encourage and accomplish such development.
To solicit businesses or industry to purchase or lease property within the Township.
To serve as an ombudsman for business and community organizations through engaging liaison with those organizations who are deemed essential to the success of various programs, projects and policies of the Advisory Council.
To facilitate appropriate public and private agencies in focusing their resources on specific projects and programs under the supervision of the Advisory Council in an effort to attain maximum leverage of public investment.
To undertake research and to recommend economic development policies to the Mayor and Township Committee and further, to effectuate projects and programs to implement said policies.
To coordinate programs and projects aimed at the retention of existing business as well as at the attraction of new or expanded business opportunities within the Township.
To survey and determine what businesses would be successful in the central business district and in other business districts, and encourage such businesses to locate within the Township.
To encourage beautification of and improvement of the business districts of the Township, and to recommend improvements to the Township Committee.
To oversee such programs relating to economic development as directed by the Township Committee. 

EDAC meetings are not subject to the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Act.

Senior Citizens

The Mansfield Township Senior Citizens meet the second Tuesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the Mansfield Firehouse.  The Firehouse opens at 10:30 a.m. for those Seniors that would like to get together for social activities.  Our meetings have informative speakers on topics relating to senior life and followed by refreshments and a time to socialize with our friendly senior members.  Senior Activities include:  one-day bus trips to places of interest and entertainment; a pot luck luncheon, a picnic at Meadow Breeze Park located in Washington, a Holiday luncheon, and other activities.
