WHEREAS, Andrew Miller’s son Henry, was laid to rest on August 12, 1767, in the private graveyard on the property.  The graveyard is still visible from the highway with the stone boarder wall and large tree that used to stand surrounded by the headstones.  The tree was removed in 2026.

WHEREAS, the Miller Homestead reflects the unique Greek Revival style of its era, preserving historic building techniques that offer invaluable educational insight for current and future generations; and

WHEREAS, the original property consisted of three (3) buildings – a main house, a summer kitchen, and a stone house.  An expansive, four-section barn was built parallel to Route 57; and

WHEREAS, this historic home has withstood the test of time, serving as a living monument to the architectural heritage, craftsmanship, and foundational history of our community; and

WHEREAS, the continued preservation of this structure is a testament to the dedication of local historians, preservationists, and current owner Mrs. Joan Watters, who has painstakingly maintained its historical integrity; and

WHEREAS, recognizing this historic landmark fosters a deeper appreciation for our collective roots and strengthens the cultural fabric of the Township of Mansfield.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Township Committee of the Township of Mansfield do hereby officially recognize the Miller Homestead as one of the treasured historical landmarks of the Township of Mansfield.
